Episode 37
June 29, 2008 07:47 AM PDT
SORRY it’s been a while, but I promise some excellent tracks in Episode 37’s up-tempo set. Kicking off is Northshore’s “Take me higher” http://www.inevitablerecords.co.uk/ which I think first appeared at the WMC a few months ago. Respect to M J White from North Carolina who here is providing vocals to Club 4 Life’s “I fly”. Currently M J is part of UK-based group Donatella Movement but see http://www.myspace.com/mjwhiteny for a variety of excellent house tracks including the deep “Rocking the house” and the tender “Like a butterfly”. Spot the re-working of Harry’s Afro Hut remix of “Flawless” emerging as the House Bros featuring Carol Jiani’s “Keep on”. http://www.myspace.com/caroljiani I also like Carol’s “Such a shame” where she works with DJ/producer Mark Wilkinson. The House Bros is actually Italian DJ, producer, and label owner Pagany. I’m sure you’ll recognise his other names Capella, 49ers and Superstar DJs. Pagany pops up later on “Show me how good” featuring Vale Ducros http://www.myspace.com/housebros Perhaps my favourite track of the set is “Una familia” by Italian Carlo Biondi AKA Carlos Rubio who in this small world also is signed to Pagany’s Distar label. Carlo’s classy slice of disco house borrows heavily from “Ooh I love it (Love break) by The Salsoul Orchestra. The Salsoul phenomenon had a major influence on today’s dance music sound http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salsoul_Records My favourite Salsoul track will always be “Spring rain” by Argentinian pianist Bebu Silvetti http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YN-2Dj0uLU Later in the set you’ll recognise Pulse’s 1996 release “The lover that you are” as it is given a 2008 makeover by Marlon D and George Mena. Then Chicago group Midway Strangers bring us the aptly named “Call it deep”, because it is. And damned fine too. http://www.myspace.com/midwaystrangers French duo Mr Fuzz (Frederic Faupin) and DJ Rico are together known as Grantorino with “What you won’t do” which was first recorded by Bobby Caldwell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUKoWmeZraE Check out the Candy Apple Club Mix of diva Pepper MaShay’s “Pray for tomorrow”, and finally the beautiful voice of Joyce Elaine Yuille ends things with her “My best thing”. http://www.myspace.com/joyceyuille Enjoy. Here’s the full track list:
